Bronze jewelry tends to oxidize over time, i.e. tarnish. They become darker or slightly greenish. To prevent this from happening for as long as possible, you should make sure to keep your jewelry as clean and dry as possible. The cause of the oxidation is that the metal reacts with the surrounding air or with the acid and moisture of the skin. The oxidation and formation of black oxide and green patina is completely normal and not harmful, but depending on your taste it may look "antique" or a little unsightly. This green patina is often incorrectly referred to as verdigris. The green coloring is caused by the formation of salts from organic acids and is a surface layer that basically has a protective effect on the metal and prevents it from erosion. Contrary to popular belief, this patina is not harmful to health, neither if swallowed nor on the skin, unless you have an allergy. The oxidation layer that may form on your piece of jewelry and make it darker or slightly greenish can be easily rubbed away with a silver cleaning cloth. If that is not enough, I recommend an old toothbrush with a little toothpaste. Rub the jewelry gently with it and then rinse with lukewarm water.
